Finchley and Friern Barnet

Our Area of Benefit is made up of the old Finchley Borough Council (purple) and the old Friern Barnet Urban District Council (red). This is quite a large area, extending from the County Boundary in the North to Hampstead in the south, and from the New Southgate to New Barnet railway line on the East to Dollis Brook in the West.

The Finchley Society was formed in 1971 to protect, preserve and improve buildings, transport, roads and open spaces in Finchley and Friern Barnet and their environs, and to explore the history and the special features of the area. The Society is independent of Barnet Borough Council and of all political parties.

The Society is one of the most active amenity groups in the Borough. It has a record of vigorous action in defence of the local environment, through practical conservation and careful consideration of all planning issues.
