Pentland site off Squires Lane to be redeveloped
The distinctive blue 1960s building visible from the Northern Line and from Squires Lane is owned by the Pentland group. The buildings on the site surround a secluded lake and a nature reserve. The lake was created in the 1830s to service the market garden and the Claigmar vineyard, fed by rainwater collected from the roofs of buildings and greenhouses. In the early 1900s the Electricity Board took over the site and set up a substation. Pentland bought the building from the Electric Company in the 1980s, and in 2004 constructed an award-winning office building taking full advantage of the lake views.
Pentland have moved to offices in town, leaving behind a fascinating site whose future is now up for consideration. Pentland have been contacting local groups and residents with a view to involving them in a co- design exercise to identify the best use for the site in the future. The Finchley Society, with others, was invited to a presentation on 21 May to launch the process.
Two Design sessions will take place, on 13th and 14th June. You can find details at https://finchleylakeside.co.uk. If you are not able to attend but would like to give your views on how this beautiful site should be used in the future you will be able to do so by email, post, telephone or online.
You can find details of how to give your views, as well as more information on the site, here.
