Past, Present and Future

Elspeth Clements and Janice Morgan recounted the history of the Highgate Society. They drew on The Story of the Highgate Society 1966 to 2016: Life in a London Village, produced by the Society to commemorate its fiftieth anniversary in 2016. The book, based on material from the Society’s quarterly magazine Buzz, describes the environmental and planning disputes which led to the formation of the Society in 1966, some of the Society’s subsequent highs and lows, as well as the battles over planning applications, such as Athlone House which lasted over eighteen years;

Elspeth Clements is the current Chair of the Highgate Society and Janice Morgan a past Chair and a Vice President of the Society.

The meeting took place at Avenue House, located in Stephens House and Gardens, 17 East End Road, Finchley N3 3QE.
