Joanna Lumley
Our New Patron

We are delighted to announce that Joanna Lumley has agreed to become Patron of The Finchley Society.

Joanna is no stranger to Finchley. When Spike Milligan was campaigning for the survival of College Farm in the 1970s and 80s he brought Joanna (and Lindsay de Paul) to one of the Sunday Open Days. The publicity was very helpful to the cause and led to the Farm being featured by Esther Rantzen on “That’s Life!”

Later, when Barbara Warren, with the help of the Society, set up the Spike Milligan Statue Fund in 2004, Joanna was one of the first to be invited to become one of its Patrons. Joanna sent us books to be auctioned and on one memorable evening she hosted a dinner at the home of Derek and Barbara Warren. Guests paid £100 for the privilege of attending – and Joanna insisted on paying her share as well, a very generous gesture.
