Jean Scott and some early
Finchley Society campaigns
Thursday October 30

Jean Scott founded the Finchley Society in 1971. She was then the Greater London Councillor for Finchley and a member of the Council’s Historic Buildings Board. At the same time Frank Kelsall was a young architectural historian in the Council’s Historic Buildings Division, which Jean Scott involved in several of her local campaigns. After Mrs Thatcher abolished the GLC in 1986 Frank went on to be an inspector with English Heritage and in retirement president of the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain and chairman of the London Society.

In the 2025 Jean Scott Memorial Lecture Frank told members something about the Society’s founder and looked at a few places in Finchley in which Jean Scott took a special interest.

The meeting took place in Avenue House, located at Stephens House and Gardens, 17 East End Road, Finchley N3 3QE.
