1971 saw The Finchley Society being formed. These early newsletters show how the Society was created and then developed during its first year. Click on the month below to read or download the newsletter.

| March | Buildings of Special Interest, Appeals for help |
| April | Our members compile their list of buildings worthy of preservation. We are now known as The Finchley Society. |
| May | We start to monitor planning applications and collect archive material. |
| June | We prepare for an exhibition at Finchley Carnival and our membership totals sixty. |
| September | Membership increases to 100 and subscriptions rates increase to 50p per year. Our first committee is elected and we start a survey of Finchley's buildings. |
| October | Spike Milligan is our President with Sir John Betjeman appointed Patron. A letter from Spike. |
