Restoring Alexandra Palace
An Illustrated Talk by Isobel Aptaker
8 pm Thursday
30 October 2015

In 1935, the BBC leased part of Alexandra Palace, and a year later the world’s first public television broadcast took place from studios there. Planning is now underway to restore the original BBC television studio and the Palace’s Victorian theatre to their former glory.

Isobel Aptaker gave an illustrated talk about the proposed designs for restoring the studio, theatre, and the Palace’s East Court. Isobel was appointed Learning Officer at Alexandra Palace two years ago, and alongside the learning programme she is leading the Palace’s 2014 project marking the centenary of the First World War, with a temporary exhibition and bespoke learning programme telling the story of the Park and Palace as a camp for Belgian refugees and enemy internees.

Mike Gee also updated us on the Finchley in Bloom competition.

The meeting took place at the Pavilion at The Hall School Sports Ground (Wilf Slack Memorial Ground).
